Web Services
PhoTournament.com proudly implements the most powerful, recent and standard technologies.
PhoTournament.com is probably the first Photography oriented website to choose and implement the Web Services standard.
Web Services are a way of delivering a service without limitation imposed by a particular programming language or technology platform.
At the moment the website provides a single web service: onGoingSrv, which informs of any tournaments that are currently running, possibly filtering the information down to a particular category among those currently available (Photography and PhotoArt).
If you click on the onGoingSrv link you will see the WSDL of the service, a formal description that is automatically used by developers in order to "consume" the service.
PhoTournament.com's Web Services will allow a tight integration with other different services, therefore, providing the most modern and networked means to connect websites and information.
The service, for instance, can be consumed by WAP developers to provide information to mobile phones. PhoTournament.com is also developing a wide range of clients for their own services as sample applications.
The first example available has been developed with Flash MX 2004 Professional Edition and shows how the onGoingSrv Web Service can be easily consumed even by a powerful graphic environment like Flash:
